Swimming pool filters are what remove the fine particles from the water keeping the water clean and improve your swimming experience. Swimming pool filters are therefore an essential part of your pool.
Good clean water in your pool not only looks great but is necessary for health and safety. To this end a good filtration system is extremely important. Pool filters work by removing plant and animal materials from the water thus reducing the “food” that bacteria and algae feed upon. By removing these materials will ensure that you pool, spa, and Jacuzzi remain in a safe, healthy, and sanitary way.

Sand Filters use a specific type of sand to filter the water and can filter out particles to around 40 microns in size. They work in the following way:
- Water enters the tank via the diffuser
- As the water filters through the sand, and debris is caught between the sand grains
- The water is returned to the pool via the laterals at the bottom of the filter

Cartridge Filters have improved dramatically over the last few years as manufacturers have developed new filters with surface areas of 300-500 square feet so that they only need cleaning a few times a year. Cartridge Filters do not filter as finely as their Diatomaceous counter parts but with improved manufacturing they do filter as well as sand filters.

Diatomaceous Earth (DE) filters are arguably the best filters on the market filtering out debris as fine as 5-8 microns. A DE filter has plastic grids within it that are covered with a filter powder called Diatomaceous Earth. The water is filtered as it passes through the filter powder.
